I remember talking to Gavin and Mike from Essex Police a few years ago. Starting wage (as of maybe 2 yrs ago) was 18K, you had to use your own car with basic allowance and the areas being covered were getting bigger all the time.

but don't forget the main qualification little to no knowledge or interest in shooting/firearms

My FEO is a prone .22 shooter, and fully understands when I explain about needing 2 or more rifles in the same caliber due to different set-ups/sights ect....

...we did have to once 'agree to disagree' about shooting magpies though...
