Met Police licensing team composition

#1 Post by Gaz »

While sniffing around for something to write about at work, I found this: http://www.met.police.uk/foi/pdfs/discl ... 000079.pdf

It's a response to a Freedom of Information request for the number of staff in the Met's firearms enquiry team, broken down into numbers of police staff and actual police constables, numbers of management and training.

In typical police fashion it says as little as possible in the maximum number of words, but the details they do give are interesting. None of the firearms enquiry team have received formal training. The team is roughly split 50/50 between uniformed coppers and civilian police staff, but has 5 uniformed constables and 2 non-uniformed police staff at management level. The Met have erroneously decided not to disclose how many members of the team hold FACs.

There are seemingly no constables over the rank of inspector in the team. The team does not report to any higher level of management, as far as licensing decisions go - which makes me wonder why I've got Bernard Hogan-Howe's facsimile'd signature on my FAC.

Gaz: I thought having an interest in guns and having an FAC was more of a disqualifier in our armed police, or am I wrong?

C'mon surely you cannot be lost for something to write about. I see there's a petition up about exclusion orders to stop (community?) abusing of young girls. got an e-mail from change.org about it.
Political Correctness is the language of lies, written by the corrupt , spoken by the inept!

I think you are wrong, strangely enough. Last few publicly available FEO job adverts I've seen (and posted on a thread somewhere on here, actually) have deliberately asked for previous knowledge/experience of firearms.

Find me a tech angle to that! today was a quiet day hence I was poking about, if I find something interesting, techy and offbeat I usually try and write it up.

Incidentally, the Met claims to publish all FOI requests it answers on this page: http://www.met.police.uk/foi/disclosure ... re_log.htm

I'm certain they don't publish all the answers there, but the sanitised, press-friendly snippets still make interesting reading in parts.

This was the case in Herts a few years ago, if not actual policy certainly a trend, or so it appeared ;) .

However, this topic was about firearms enquiry team, not armed police.
Arming the Country, one gun at a time.

Good deals with Paul101, Charlotte the flyer, majordisorder, Charlie Muggins, among others. Thanks everybody.

When a FEO just was advertised for Essex police it stated that you must have firearms experience

Oddly enough I have heard the same regarding Avon and Somerset's Armed Response teams, however, the claim has remained unsubstantiated. On the other hand all my FEOs had either been Armed Response officers or shooters themselves
