Possibility that I may be moving to Hants next year. Is it (and surrounding counties) well-served with full-bore clubs. I suspect yes, so any recommendations for .308 and .223 shooting there? Willing to travel a bit.

Also, anyone know if Tipner Ranges in Portsmouth are still in use?

As I mentioned, I'd be willing to travel 100 miles or so each way. I don't suppose there's anywhere in the UK who offers/provides steel plate?

There are ETR's at a few places in the UK however I only know of the ones in the East area.

If you're wanting to shoot steel plate with your fullbore rifles, there are very few ranges you 'll be able to choose from. I know some steels had been made for a specific match which was going to be held in August at Bisley but was postponed. One of the reasons was that Bisley didn't come to a decision on whether steels could be shot on their ranges, so at the moment we have to assume they cannot.

Pirbright Ranges have fullbore falling plates, but I think the Army aren't keen at all on letting civilian clubs use any of the Pirbright complex. Shame, really, there's some nice facilities there.

I don't want ETR/falling plates but actual steel plates. (you know... "DINGGG...!") With ETR you might as well just shoot standard targets.

If it's not catered for in the UK then, oh well... (I suppose it's the ricochet risk?) still interested to know where Hants folk shoot though.

I'm surprised Bisley doesn't have falling plates - surely the RHS of Stickledown could have a couple of bays dug in for engagement from, say, the 900x firing point? Minimum engagement distance for the military-issue plates is 200yds if I remember right.

Used to have loads of fun shooting plates at Whitburn range (Sunderland) in the late 70s and 80s before it closed, even more fun watching someone shoot a Bren with a couple of rounds of armour piercing, by accident of course! :lol:
