Nagant stripper clips?

Hi all, I had a good day shooting my m44 last week, but I wouldn't mind trying stripper clips to speed up my loading at the rang. Can aanyone point me in the direction of where I can pick up some 7.62 x 54 clips?

I tried some stripper clips in my 91/30 but after much fiddling and cutting my thumb I realised I could get 5 rounds in it by hand quicker with less hassle......perhaps I didn't have the "knack" but gave up on the clips.

Glad you are enjoying your M44.

I have some of those stripper clips but they are the Chinese copies and to be honest, they just aren't worth the hassle. If you can get your hands on some original soviet items then they are supposed to work as they should. If the mechanism fitted at the top of the magazine (designed to prevent rim-lock) is working as advertised, then you should be able to load your rounds by hand pretty quickly anyway without fear of doing a Bob Marley (jamming?).
If you look at the upper face of the case rim on each cartridge, you will notice that it is bevelled. I'm informed that this was to allow the cartridges to be forced over the cartridge below should the mechanism fail and a rim-lock condition prevail. I can't confirm that this is true but it seems correct from a mechanical viewpoint. These Ruskies weren't so crazy and anyone who has had rim-lock on a .303 would probably wonder why we didn't have a similar mechanism and bevelled rim cartidges.

If you choose to strip the bolt at any time, you can find numerous good video clips on utube on the subject. Firing pin set-up is important but these video clips explain it well. I changed my M38 trigger assembly for an item sourced from Finland advertised on ebay. Vast improvement on the standard item and thoroughly recommended.

Thanks Mezzer. Yeah the nagant was a big hit at the range and the percussion back blast from firing through drums certainly warmed my face and tidied up my facial hair... LOL

If you still want to give the clips a try, I can send you a few and if it works out okay then keep them. If not, just stick them in the bin. Saying that, I won't be back in the UK for another 6 weeks but if you want them, they're yours. Just remember that these are the Chinese knock-offs, so mind your fingers!
