Good University ... with Shooting

My daughter looks destined to do some form of University education somewhere in GB probably studying a technical subject possibly Chemistry.........

It is of course a very secondary consideration but........ but which Universities have healthy full-bore shooting clubs & access to a full-bore gallery range other than say the obvious Bisley? & have access to a small-bore range on or near campus? as she is unlikely to have a car whist at a city uni. ........

Phil I would of course recommend Exeter (probably best university in the world) but if Z wants to study chem she's about 15 years too late. Excellent rifle club though.

My son (BlackburnBuccaneer) is at Robert Gordon's University in Aberdeen. He shoots smallbore, fullbore and clays with Aberdeen Universities (RGU and Aberdeen) with a very full shooting calendar. He's shooting clays at St Andrews tomorrow, fullbore and Jubilee Range Glen Tilt on Tuesday and 17th May, and shoots smallbore on Wednesday/Thursday/Saturdays at the Denwood Range Complex (indoor 25m and outdoor 50m & 100m) just outside Aberdeen.

Rumour has it that he manages to fit some academic work around his shooting now and again :roll:

As I posted above, Aberdeen and Robert Gordons shoot jointly/severally - each hosts its own events but at the same shared Denwood Range Complex.

There is a busy university shooting network in Scotland with Aberdeen (Aberdeen/RGU), St Andrews, Edinburgh and Glasgow shooting regularly with each university holding shluder-to-shoulder meets on a regular basis in smallbore/fullbore/clays.

So the following can be added to the list:

Brunel does airgun, smallbore TR, fullbore TR, smallbore "fun gun", fullbore SR, (some) GR, clays and they're just starting to broaden out into target shotgun. Book membership of 50+, probably about half of that are active members, plus the active alumni section.

It's come a long way from three first-year students in the SU bar saying "hey, you play with guns too"...

Smallbore wednesday afternoons @ London bridge SERC range, no range charge, you pay for ammo.
Also air pistol.

Full bore few trips to Bisley a year. Normally weekends organised with Exeter. Also a week in Easter "Easter Bisley". Range hire/accommodation heavily subsidised. Handloads keep ammo costs down.

Clays normally JJ's every other weekend £20 per 50 clays everything included.

We shoot BUCS and some other comps (always subsidised) for every discipline.

As my father has stated above I am studying at Robert Gordon in Aberdeen and am an active member of the Aberdeen Universities Rifle Club (AURC) and hold the committee position of Fullbore Captain.
We shoot Smallbore at the Denwood Target shooting Range twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday) with indoor at 25 yards in the winter and outdoor at 50m and 100 yards later on in the year, we also shoot fullbore at Glen Tilt in the summer as part of Scottish Student Sport. As a club we compete in both home and away university competitions under the Auspices of SSS and BUCS, as well as postal leagues on a local and national level covering ADSRA, SSRA and the NSRA. We also provide opportunities to travel to National championships from time to time, such as BUCS (Indoor and Outdoor) as well as the Scottish Smallbore Championships, and now and again even meets at Bisley. The club regularly places well in both the SSS and BUCS events, having been BUCS champions several times in the last Decade and Coming second at the Indoor Championships this year as well as placing/winning several SSS events each year.

Both universities also have active clay pigeon clubs who shoot on saturdays throughout the year and travel to several away shoots over the Academic year. Both clubs shoot at the Seal's Cove Clay Ground which is located just to the south of Aberdeen.

I am no expert on the matter of Chemistry, but I am lead to believe that Aberdeen offers a high level of academic attainment in the field of Chemistry if that is of any help.
