Spot-on Dromia. Whilst I have two barrels for my Sauer, the .243 barrel hasn't been on the rifle in years although I'm about to resurrect it to give the .308 tube a rest as it's seen quite a lot of action in recent months.

That aside, the lack of use of the .243 is largely down to me now being massively keen on the calibre, or more honestly simply preferring .308. I'm going to try to get to like it again with 95gr Sierra SMKs - it's a very accurate barrel.

Well so far I have shot .308 and 2.23

I will try some other calibres and rifles if possible.

I think it's the ability to try different calibres later that appeals.

But like you say .308 will probably do it.

Thanks for your continued input and help on this.

It is not easy

Once you've shot a good 6.5 you'll never want to shoot .308/7.62 NATO again.

Don't be influenced by the advice of shooting colleagues with a TR and F-TR bias.

You should seriously consider a .260 Rem, 6.5x47 Lapua, 6.5 Creedmoor (watch the barrel life) or the classic 6.5x55 SKAN.

I can change my barrel in minutes but I'm not likely to change calibre. It's a useful feature only because I don't require the services of a gunsmith to replace a barrel.

Read and understood (I think)

So all the rounds from .243 upwards to .308 are based in the .308 base cartridge?

What about long and short actions though?

I think I need to try some more calibres first

7mm was recommended to me
