Lodging a gun with dealer
I have left my FAC shotgun with a dealer for 2 weeks on a "sale or return" basis, bit like putting it in for repair. He has given me a receipt for it.
Do I need to tell the police, he say`s NO as I have not transferred or sold it to him.

As it's not left you permanently you don't need to declare to the police it I believe. If they did a check the RFD would be able to collaborate where it currently is
Re: Lodging a gun with dealer
My understanding was that over 72 hours out of your possession then you should notify licensing.

The 72 hour thing is if you lend it to another SGC holder, if you lend it for longer you need to enter it on their SGC as well as yours (if you are wanting it back at some time) and tell the police you have lent it for an extended period.
Then your friend can come borrow it at any time for as long as they want with no problems.
But in this case the dealer is merely holding on to it for you for a while and there is no need to notify the police.

No need to notify, you say you have a receipt, that is all you need to produce if the FEO asks.
Also your RFD told you that you do not need to notify the FEO....trust him.

No need to notify as christel and others have said, we have had 2 rifles at a dealers for 8 weeks for him to sell for us, he took the details of them entered them into his log book and gave us a receipt to say now logged with him. When he told us he had sold them, we just sent an e-mail into the police informing them of the sales. Sorted.

I was replying to Tony's post about the 72 hour lend, perhaps I should have made it clearer that was only for S2 not S1 shotguns (hence the SGC holder bit).mag41uk wrote:OP states FAC shotgun!

No need to notify of its with a dealer but if in doubt about anything legal, always ask your local firearms office.
