I dunno what you guys are talkign about, i googled a range when i was in Petaluma and Bullseye was right on the way into San Francisco from there. it says 25 mile trip from the centre of "downtown SF"..

They gave me some issues because I was travelling on my own. I collared a couple of folks who were new to shooting and renting some pistols and invited them to share the lane with me and I'd pay for the ammo whilst they shot with me and apparently that was fine... crazy ass people.

But there are definitely places to shoot near SF...

Forgot to update the thread at the time, but I did make it to the LAX firing range eventually.

As others said, you need to have a companion to get in, as well as valid photo id (passport worked for me), which they hold until you're finished..

I went with an American colleague who brought his own Glock. We rented a lane, a Beretta Px4 (they didn't have a 92) and an AR-15. Bought half a dozen targets, 200 rounds of 9mm and 100 rounds of 5.56. There are a dozen or so lanes, with automatic target holders.

Best part of two hours of excellent fun in a great environment and change from $200.

Highly recommended.
