We doint have full devolved powers in NI.
Reserved matters

These are issues where legislative authority generally rests with Westminster, but where the Northern Ireland Assembly can legislate with the consent of the Secretary of State. These include:

firearms and explosives
financial services and pensions regulation
broadcasting
import and export controls
navigation and civil aviation
international trade and financial markets
telecommunications and postage
the foreshore and seabed
disqualification from Assembly membership
consumer safety
intellectual property

interesting never knew that !

Mo Molam was the NI Secretary at the time of the ban and she stated that she would not see it implemented in NI.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

True Unionists politicians did not want the ban to apply in N/I that remains the case.

Handguns may not be banned in Northern Ireland after all, as part of Govern- ment plans to woo the Ulster Unionists.

Tony Blair is considering the exemption from the post-Dunblane ban as one of a number of "confidence-building measures" proposed by Mo Mowlam, the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, in order to tempt David Trimble's Ulster Unionists into talks along with Sinn Fein on 9 September
Mo Mowlam replied, ``After much thought, I am not persuaded of the need to prohibit the possession and use of target handguns in Northern Ireland. I realise that my decision may disappoint some people who feel strongly, as I do, about firearms control and safeguarding the public''

Being apathetic is one thing but going all of half cocked over what looks to me like Chinese whispers emanating from some internet blog witch states that it is all here say anyway looks to me like typical sensationalist tabloid gutter press journalism that is just regurgitating gossip for the sake of hits on the web site.

I won't give places like that the oxygen.

As has been said these firearms have been approved through proper processes and scrutiny, to change that will require further proper process more than some daft video, that no-one seems to know where it is, that will allow engagement to challenge it.

Taking heed of populist scumbag journalist paranoia does nothing to help our well being.
Ok, so is it a case of the author of the news item not being considered reliable? If so I apologise for posting the info from the UK Shooting News website.

No need to apologies you put up the post in good faith.

There is no smoke without fire and I am sure that within that website there is stuff that is germane to gun owners, I just feel it needs a bit of critical rigour to get the substance out of the sensationalist spin.

I do not consider the source reliable but I am sure there are others that do, like everything on the internet people read it and attach whatever value to it they feel it merits.

The website in question can be linked to in topics like any other on the netty and will get the same scrutiny and comment from those who read it as any other post/link will.
