Well this is why it's nonsensical IMO, because the extra bureaucracy is unnecessary for some if not most.

As I mentioned, it doesn't matter, according to Strathclyde you would still have to put down the serial number every time you record use -Or else - No club approval.

We've been recording serials numbers in LERA for a few years now, we simply have a pre printed sheet of paper with our rifle details on.
I actually thought most clubs did it?

You could be forgiven for thinking that Strathclyde Police must surely have more urgent issues to deal with than this.

It now forms part of the criteria for obtaining/maintaining Home Office approval. It's no longer "advice", but stipulation...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Guns dont kill people. Dads with pretty Daughters do...!

Is this a requirement throughout the UK?

All three of the rifle clubs I'm a member of require the calibres of firearms used. One of those three clubs has a membership sheet where you record your rifles and just tick the relevant box on each visit rather than entering the details all over again.

If the purpose for doing this is so that the police can check you are using all your rifles, what's stopping you from inserting details of a rifle you didn't shoot?

Nothing. The RO isn't going to check the serial number of each rifle against each member per visit.
