Silencer/sound moderators and the law

I did look back in some old posts but couldn't fall immediately upon the answer to my question....

I have an old Webley metal, heavy as f%$* silencer that I bought through mail order (old school) in the 90's. It was for an air rifle with a 1/2 UNF thread. I have a lighter one on my rimfire and its listed on my FAC as "unnamed sound moderator" as I recall.

Is it legal to sell this on ebay or as it could it be used on a firearm. Or is the application down to the purchaser? I see restrictions getting tighter and don't want to fall foul of any laws. Especially now in Scotland with airgun legislation.

I know you will give me a definitive answer.

Aye, if it is "immediacy" you require then searches are unlikely to give you that.

"Silencers" take on the level of control/condition to match the item they are intended to be attached to....

S.1 moderators need S1 permissions
S.2 moderators need no permission
Airgun moderators need no permission

The fact that some moderators of a lower category also match the design specs of S1 moderators - as is the case with the Parker Hale examples = legally sold on FAC for .22 rimfire/legally sold without any paperwork for use on an airgun - means that it is down to the USER to make sure that they fully comply with the law.

I've got a few Webley air-rifles. One of my Vulcans seems to require a sound mod. as the barrel has a very strange plastic shroud with a heath robinson piece of junk screwed onto the end of the barrel to keep it in place...

My FAC one is a Parker Hale but has no identifying marks. Neither does the Webley have any marks but I remember it was one of theirs.

If I want to put a mod I bought for an air rifle onto one of my rimfire (it is suitable for both, and I have slots for .22 moderator on my ticket), can I enter it myself, sending a letter to the police letting them know it's on my ticket?

Akin to most Section 58 owned firearms - YES - but to save the drama llamas getting their panties all knotted up = phone the licensing section first to see how they'd prefer this to be done: they MAY just do the transfer electronically on the system in the office...
