no paperwork except for his FAC showing it written in the acquired column?walesdave wrote:
Beg to differ (and not wanting to start a barney) but Racalman has a gun in his cabinet and no paperwork to show he has authority to posses it. I wonder what would happen if Racalman went out-of-area to shoot and a non-TVP bobby ran a NFLIMs check.....at the least he would end up in a custody suite answering some questions which no one would believe until TVP had confirmed his 'but TVP said it would be ok' answers.

When guns are outlawed, only Outlaws will have guns
Re: Temporary Permit question
But once November comes he doesn't have a valid FAC with the aquisition details as his current FAC will have expired and will be worthless if trying to prove authority to possess.bradaz11 wrote:no paperwork except for his FAC showing it written in the acquired column?walesdave wrote:

Re: Temporary Permit question
Racalman, whatever you do, get it in writing.
One force may do things one way and another force may do it differently despite what the law says, meaning you will be the culprit unless you have it in writing.
Email your force and make sure you get a reply or send a letter recorded asking for a reply, that way you have a paper trail.
Phone call does not work as you cannot prove what was being said.

Re: Temporary Permit question
Dave it's only August now and the renewal is in November so plenty of time for them to amend the temporary permit, or even better still to issue the renewed FAC by the due date.walesdave wrote:But once November comes he doesn't have a valid FAC with the aquisition details as his current FAC will have expired and will be worthless if trying to prove authority to possess.bradaz11 wrote:no paperwork except for his FAC showing it written in the acquired column?walesdave wrote:

If all that has been said is correct it sounds to me like they have a fixed slow rate of work and are not prepared to make any improvements to change that. They then compound the delays and backlog by wasting time and effort issuing temporary permits long before they are necessary in anticipation of failing to reach acceptable target dates. Sounds like a review of working practices is called for along with serious re-organisation administered by a boot to the backside of those responsible.

Just a thought but it might be worth dropping a line to your Police & Crime Commissioner? This is exactly the type of thing they're supposed to be challenging the Chief Constables on and you'll be doing your fellow shooters a favour by highlighting it.

Re: Temporary Permit question
Thanks everyone, I appreciate your thoughts. Yes I'm legit until my FAC expires in November and I will be emailing the FLD anyway but just wanted to know if this was a common situation elsewhere.
I don't want to start complaining unless I am going to be in some way inconvenienced because I have a lot of sympathy with the FLD staff. They are doing their best in circumstances not of their making.

Re: Temporary Permit question
You already have it writing that if the Temporary permit and FAC are different that you do not need to take any action.
What I cannot understand is why they have time to create, approve, sign and issue the TP when actually reviewing your application as a long standing holder of FAC?SGC and issuing new would not take much longer. If they stopped messing around and did the job promptly the waiting time would be reduced and there would be no need for TPs.

Re: Temporary Permit question
Hi all for what its worth, I received my letter in November last year, telling me my renewal was due in Feb this year, they advised that due to high workload I should return my paperwork ASAP to avoid delays in issuing new FAC.
I duly did so and heard nothing more from them, in Jan this year I started rattling cages including BASC, I had several conversations with Firearms staff at TVP during which I was told I would almost certainly be issued with a sec7 cert ,I questioned whether that would be suitable considering the sect 5 ammo I hold, I was assured by phone "no problem"
strangely when I repeated the question in writing the answer was "you will not be covered to keep or use sect 5 ammo under a sect7 cert"
I asked who the storage bill was to be sent to as it wasn't my fault TVP couldn't keep up with their work load, the first answer was I would have to pay if I wasn't happy with keeping ammo illegally !
to cut a long story short, after a certain amount of chivying my new FAC arrived a couple of days after the old one expired, I was informed that it was on the way so at no time was I not covered by a valid FAC.
I am aware of several people in the TVP area (and others) who have spent months on sect7 certs despite handing in paperwork early.
My FEO was very thorough in ringing ALL my references, and insisting on far more info from my club than has ever been asked for by any other FEO, my club secretary now hates me
PS my new FAC included several extra rifles and mods.

Re: Temporary Permit question
Well things are getting worse then, because I got my reminder letter six months before renewal and the temporary permit is valid for six months after ...
I must thank the NRA for helping me out here. Their legal rep Iain saw this conversation and contacted me (on a Sunday!) with the correct advice, which was to get the permit corrected.
