Arctic Live Tonight

#1 Post by lasbrisas »

Just been watching Arctive Live on BBC2, Canada has an army base and supported by the local Inuit tribe protecting them from polar bear attacks, they prefer to use what looked like Jungle Carbines and a few No4's as the firing pins don't freeze ! They just called them 303 rifles.

The Canadian Rangers only started to retire their issued No.4's from 2014-onwards.

Don't remember ever seeing them with No.5's though...?

Their new Colt made No.4 replacement looks a little like a shortened 303 though....??

It was the Inuit support that had the No5, well that's what it looked like as it had the conical flash hider and was a 303, worth a look on iplayer if you didn't see it. the link was that the programme was about Polar Bears and they were keeping watch over the Artic army base.

Had a look.

Looked like a sporterised No.5, as fore-end and stock were not stock No.5 items, as indicated by different sling swivel locations.

Probably something a bit like this one.

I was at a briefing by a Canadian warrant officer last year.

He said in no uncertain terms that he had no desire to do a third six month tour of duty in the north!
