Nsra intrusion
My club is affiliated to the Nsra....dont ask, we have to be affiliated....latest 2017 bumph asks for e mails and phone numbers of all members, because without this info "it could nullify the club insurance"..the Nsra has just switched insurers so I imagine this is some marketing ploy.
I have checked briefly the Data Protection Act and there could be problems....for me.... I have no intention of providing these private details but wonder how many other clubs are having their arms twisted..I dont think that the NRA ask for this info, nothing in the 2017 paperwork.

Re: Nsra intrusion
NRA ask for list of all club members names with DOB on similar grounds, giving Dob is similarly fraught with issues. But they dont ask for email etc - simply refuse to provide it & contact other clubs to do the same, the NSRA will have nowhere to go & nothing they can do about it either if they refuse affiliation the cut their own throat (more than the gash it already is).
Quote data protection act - you need the express permission of each member to provide their personal contact information & it was not granted. A club EGM/AGM decision cant do this either unless the members individually (re) sign up as part of membership allowing their data to be used by the club. Remember they are members of the club (1st party) not the NSRA (3rd party) so you have a duty to them under data protection & no contract with the NSRA to provide it.
this smacks of the Barclays bank fiasco too..... how many clubs no longer bank with Barclays after that. (requesting FAC info of the clob Sec & members)

Re: Nsra intrusion
According to the NSRA. "The information provided will be managed appropriately, and in line with the Data protection legislation. Please note that failure to provide this information could mean your club insurance is invalid["
Promises and threats, all in one sentence! Don't you just love the NSRA. I cannot understand why the NSRA would need a club members e mail or telphone number when any correspondence would go to the club secretary!! Marketing? Something worse?

Re: Nsra intrusion
The debate on this with NRA asking for Club Members DoB is similar & to the one with Barclays asking for FAC holders names.
I discussed this directly with the Information Commissioners Office, you as a club officer have a legal responsibility to your members to protect their personal & private data. If they are members of the NSRA then you can share data because both you & NSRA have the same duty of care to them & both have a to comply with the relevant Information acts. If they are members of the club but not the NSRA then there is no connection between the member or NSRA, other than via the club. You cannot share data without their explicit permission either individually or as a part of signing up to membership. So you cannot legally provide any information unless they say OK. My members said no to DoB & am sure would say a lot more to email address
In my view i would not give this data, and i would recommend to my members to not give consent for it either. Its clearly information fishing there is nothing entirely necessary about an email address & phone numbers.
I am against letting Insurance companies do this because they meddle and restrict the running of the sport & not for our benefit but to reduce their liabilities / improve their profits. They do that by ignorantly preventing activity they think as risky, or limiting cover to those that comply or they approve.
What do they need next, height weight, address, blood type, dna sequence? They dont need email & phone to extend insurance to them as members of the club.

Re: Nsra intrusion
I have already had the tussle with Barclays and confounded them...they eventually gave up...a club secretary's post becomes more difficult every year.

In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Re: Nsra intrusion
Having seen this, I raised the issue with our Club Chairman and he, in turn, contacted the County Sec who had a word with a 'legal eagle'.
The bottom line is, tell them to ram it.
Extra info of this kind is not needed to form a contract of insurance. Only if there is a claim, this info might be requested.
The Secretary of another of our County Clubs spoke to a member of the NSRA and they say a list of names as normal will do, the email address and phone number is optional.
Make of it what you will
