My last US trip included some .50 fun in the desert.

The backstop was 600 yards away and consisted of a steep mountain.

The area behind the backstop was desolate and uninhabited for 100+ miles.

I hate mils. 40+ years in the military and I never did figure the damned things out. I always carried two compasses, the issue one (in mils), and my own personal one (same make and model, but in degrees).

You can keep mils - and while you are at it the whole damed metric system! Make mine inches, feet, yards, and miles. And when it comes to shooting I'll take minutes of angle please.

To be pedantic, Mils and Milliradians are two different units of angle.

There are 6400 Nato Mils in 360 degrees

There are 6283.19 Milliradians in 360 degrees.

1 Mil is 1m at 1km

Both units are dimensionless.

If we're going to be pedantic, 1 mil at 1km would be a 1m arc - the linear measurement is going to be less...
