barrel offcuts
If I chop a barrel down by a few inches, do I have to be careful what happens to the offcut? like for instance if it goes in a scrap bin and an FEO etc sees it, would I be in trouble for an unlicensed barrel etc?
also, what if I then sold the rifle the offcut was from? so if I had a 308 rifle, where the barrel was chopped down. then I sold the rifle and no longer had a 308 slot on ticket, would I need to bin off the 308 rifled section?

Re: barrel offcuts
The cut off is unchambered, so not really a barrel. But as with most things I'd check and ask.

A lump of steel with a rifled hole is not an issue - only an issue if you cut it off the chamber end. You can buy and hold a full length barrel blank - it's only becomes part of a firearm once you chamber it.

Whats an FEO.
Re: barrel offcuts
As GP says, no need to tell anyone in licensing. Just remember to keep it longer than 12" from the bolt face which sounds sensible however you would be surprised at how many people ask for a barrel to he shortened and indicate a point on the barrel anywhere from 9.5"-12"

Alpha1, you have used the abbreviation FEO, yourself, in previous posts yet you have asked and still ask this question - search your posts for FEO if you don't believe me...Alpha1 wrote:Whats an FEO.
This leads me to conclude you are either being deliberately obtuse or you are having problems with your memory. If it's the former then I'll accept it as you being you. If it's the latter, then seriously, please see your GP about it.
