Muzzle brakes and moderators

Yes but I didn't need to justify mine to my FEO, they know you want it for noise reduction.

I note that the variation form only has slots for firearms and ammunition.

Can I put a moderator in one of the firearm slots and state my (long list of) good reasons in a cover letter?

Yes, the moderators get listed under the 'firearm' part.

I listed health and safety for mine. After all, steps must always be taken to reduce noise at source where applicable.

Not guilty but to an extent I agree. There are plenty of tossers who seem to shoot purely to have something to moan about, everything from what people wear, to what they shoot at, to the smoke they produce, brakes, you name it and someone somewhere will have an opinion which, often, when challenged fizzles out.

If I potter out with my brake equipped mouse gun I usually ask if it bothers anyone, then try to put a shooter between me and a winge bag. There is usually a compromise but some just seem to excel at suffering covertly (so rather than sort it out there and then they turn it into an NRA related incident) which is daft. Some on the other hand enjoy p*** folk off, which is also daft. That said even the mouse gun has a bark with a brake, and some of the larger calibers wake you up a bit. I used to question the need for a mouse gun with a brake until I shot one regularly in comps, now I see it works, so unless they bring out a blanket ban, I will keep it fitted ta.

My LMT .308 - as soon as I got it I put a Ase Utra CQB on it. Very accurate.

Then, with CSR rundowns in mind, I put a muzzle brake on it to save weight. Groups opened up a fair bit. Not sure if this is harmonics or the fact its barking so loud !!

Anyway, the Ase Utra is going back on !!! I would rather put up with the extra weight to gain the accuracy and comfort ( mod absorbs as much recoil as brake )

Harmonics Bri, you can actually tune the groups for a long barrel to an extent by shifting a weight up and down it, so if you significantly change what is hanging on the end.

Did you develop the load with the moddy on?

16" barrel. GGG 168gr factory match.

So the only change is brake for moddy....it likes the moddy then.

My Mossberg MVP LC came fitted with a Silcencer Co Saker Trifecta muzzle brake which can have a clip on moderator.. only downside is they're not available outside the US, and they're $1k if you can get one!

Much cheaper to unscrew the muzzle brake and fit a Wildcat...

All this reminds me... what happened to the rumours that moderators were coming off ticket??
(bearing in mind i've just paid £20 to get 3 moderators ON my ticket..!!)

AFAIK the EU Directive which requires sound mods to be licensed (they weren't in some countries) has put the blockers on it for now The same as 10 year certificates
