Forgot to mention price including flights accomodation food (3 evening meals 3 lunches (packed or barbi) and 3 huge breakfasts) all travel from airport to accomdation ,travel to range , and a few beers every night £600.00

I thought I would start a thread for people to post details of places to shoot while on Holliday.

I found it hard to find anywhere on the island of Crete despite most people owning guns!!

Although I didn't actually get a chance to visit this place I thought I'd post details in case anyone else is here soon.

They do speak limited English (better than my Greek)

Open 10-7 Wednesday & Sundays for public / non members

Pay & play type basis , a range of handguns / shotguns / full bore rifles etc

Cost varies depending on firearms used.

Is this range just outside Heraklion in the hills? It looks like it, if it is then it's the one that I use when I'm in Crete

When I'm back in a few days I'll make a list of all these places & put them in the original post so it's easy to find .

I checked with my Greek friend who I go there with and as far as he knows you can't rent guns there if you're not a member but might be possible if you are taken there by a member. Might be best if you contact them before you go to make sure.
The range is pretty good, they have a couple of pits with various steel targets then further up the hill is a longer target range with quite a few firing points. It is not easy to find (no signposts and up a dirt track) and the drive up the mountain with a sheer drop on one side and no barriers is a bit scary if you are like me and don't like heights. However the view from up there is beautiful.

Like I said, English is limited & my grasp of Greek wouldn't even get me out of the hotel.

From the texts (easiest way to talk) from one of the guys who works was take a passport, fill out the forms for a temp membership (€100) then go from there on a pay &play basis.

I'd certainly be interested in a shooting trip abroad....

Whilst it's not difficult to find somewhere to shoot in Vegas I can recommend American Shooters, off strip and not very touristy which makes for very good value.

A bit more local is Coppens Schietsportcentrum in Knokke-Heist Belgium, not been for a good few years but used to be very friendly, good range of handguns to rent including a .50 Desert Eagle when I was last there :-)

In respect of Las Vegas, I have been there several times...

Whilst I was lucky enough to DG a four day select fire M16 course out at Front Sight in Pahrump, I also popped down to American Shooters in LV. A decent range with no hassle and reasonable rates for those that want to shoot handgun or rifle at 25 or 50m. A copy of your FAC works wonders, but just leave your passport behind the desk and the world is your oyster.

Whats a trip to LA work out at ?

In the Washington / Virginia region I visited the Fairfax NRA HQ . The range, 50 meters with individual booths, is, as you'd expect, squeaky clean and very modern.

Due to ITAR, it is illegal for an "Alien" (read non US resident) to take training classes, so, ahead of the trip, I had arranged private instruction. We agreed by email exactly what I wanted to work on & the type of guns/calibers, as there is no rental.

Upon meeting at the range, I had to sit a small exam to become a life long US NRA "certified shooter". Time well spent, as it is a useful card to have in your wallet to shoot elsewhere. Then, for the rest of the day, my instructor helped me to work on my main shooting interest which is responsive draw & defensive shooting to my heart content .

To be fair, nothing that can not be done in Europe, making it pointless & prohibitly expensive to cross the pond purely for shooting. However, as part of a wider US familly vacation, it was an great experience that I'd hightly recommend. The range is located underneath the truly amazing NRA museum, an absolute "must go" for any amateur of US guns, a great bonus point.

I have read about a club on the island of Jersey that offers pistol shooting packages for groups. It is a lot closer than San Diego or the Philippines!

Plus Northern Ireland still have their pistols....
