My ammunition holding was reduced on renewal a few years ago because the sharp-eyed FEO noticed that my safe wasn't big enough to hold it all.

my FEO questioned my holding on renewal, I answered to his satisfaction and it remained the same.

Guys, thanks for all the input so far, it's been really helpful, am I right in thinking that the majority of the vetting has been done at this point? If so how long does it typically take to get your certificate following your visit?

unfortunately at that point, it's a real piece of string measurement. it all depends on if the FEO is just a bit fed up of paperwork and wants a day out the office, or if they are seeing someone else in the area for another reason and thought they'd do you at the same time, so it may not even be you are at the final stages. on the other hand, I've had an FEO turn up when checking something with ticket in hand, admittedly not for an initial grant obviously, but it really does vary lots.

Mine rang my referees from the car as he was driving home and my tickets turned up three days later.

Got the feeling he was more interested in getting a feel for the person rather
than anything else, they did not contacts my referees, but it took about 2 months
before the certs arrived, he did say keep a eye on the bank account as they don't
cash the cheque till it is granted and once that happens it's with you in a few days.

So much variation! Mine cashed the cheque on the day they received the application. But I agree, the FEO makes his decision within a few minutes of meeting you.

Well they had cashed my cheque on the 1st of March, I'm hoping most vetting is done.

I wouldn't assume a cashed cheque means anything.

On a renewal they cashed one of mine as soon as they got it. It took 8 months following that to get my updated certificate.
