I see Dromia hasn't posted, I would like to see his comments as I know he is a big time supporter of Military Rifles (Inc AR 15's).

how about the following sections :

Pretendy Military Rifles (Trainers / Small bore)
Semi Auto sub-section in Rimfires

I don't think that a dedicated AR-15 fora is the answer, but perhaps modern straight pull / manual action would be a good start? This would include AK's, Dragunov, AR's, M1 Carbines (no bias from myself at all on this one :) ), Steyr AUG's and so on. Could there be an opportunity for non-biased administrator/moderator for this (i.e. someone who is not opposed to such firearms)?

Very strange that the moderator does not use the "pretendy" word when any posts are listed about these rifles it's just when AR's are...

Any person who shoots a AR or has an interest in them may think twice about joining FB when that word is being used by a moderator...

Don't judge the book on the cover.
A certain person uses a certain word knowing full well he'll get a rise out of it......
Dromia also explained why he used that word however the explanation was ignored as it is so much easier to point the finger once one is "offended".
That is essentially what we are looking at here, isn't it, people getting "offended" because of one word without seeing the big picture.

Let me start by saying that I don't like black rifles. Never had a plastic gun and never will. But as a fellow shooter I will defend your right to own and shoot one if that rings your bell. If we all liked the same things it would be a boring old World. So long as whatever you shoot is legal and safe then there should be room for you on any firing line. We have enough enemies outside of the shooting community without fighting among ourselves.

Not sure that we need a dedicated "AR" or "straight pull" forum. Just start a new "Straight Pull Rifles" thread and let it grow. Those that who are not interested will hopefully not visit or contribute (there are a number of sections on here that I never visit) but if they do so critically then maybe the moderators can just delete the posts to stop a slanging match developing. Likewise if you are a contributor then learn to respect the other person's point of view and don't get upset if it's not the same as yours. This board is run for our benefit by people who don't get paid and give up their time, time which they would probably rather spend shooting! They should not have to sort out playground squabbles, so let's learn to live with each others' like and dislikes without verbal fights breaking out.

Now, if I can suggest a new forum for "Lever Guns of the Old West" plus "Section 58(2) Firearms" and "Slide Action Rimfire Rifles"............... :D

Absolute rubbish! That was not my reason for the original post so that l was offended with the pretendy thing, the reason l was "offended" and posted was that the AR post was curtailed for no logical reason and the "offended" party seemed to be the moderator!

There are those that look rearward and blinker themselves and those that those that embrace all things. I am 61 and like AR's AK's and all their derivatives and consider myself in the latter. I enjoy shooting fellow club members Moisins, Schmidt Benders etc but prefer more "modern" military rifles even if b****** because of UK restrictions.

You are being disingenuous if you think it is about the Pretendy stupidity and still cannot understand the intransigence with regard to a separate section as it is being reasonably supported by other forum members.

Personally not phased by a dedicated forum, I would sooner see all shooting disciplines and rifles treated with the same respect.

I have AR's but I love my 22 Winchester, Toz, Anschutz, thinking about a BSA Sportsman 15 now as I enjoyed testing one the other day. Practical / 3 gun doesn't float my boat, but others it does and as long as its safe / legal and people aren't idiots then let them carry on that's their discipline, doesn't' make them John Wayne wannabes

OK children here we go one more time.

I have no issue with pretendy ARs, AKs, Garands, SLRs etc etc, I am glad that they are available for shooters and that people can enjoy them however by no stretch of the imagination can they be compared to the originals they look like as the automatic/semiautomatic actions that the original firearms are built around are illegal in this country so to call them ARs is not the case. Straight pull ARs, AKs, SLRs etc is all good terminology as it clearly defines such firearms as different from the original designs. Most other straight pull types do actually refer to them with names that refer their non automatic functioning, it is the AR group that seems to prefer to ignore caveating the guns as such.

That is my view on it, if people want to call PH Enfields pretendy Enfields or whatever then that is up to them but one thing is for certain I won't be spitting the dummy out over it and good luck to them however ill informed that may seem to other people.

As regards the locking of threads on the subject they do not get locked because of the type of firearm being discussed but because of the type of posting such threads unfortunately lead to, it is the behaviour of the posters that locks a thread not the subject matter. Also with these threads there is usually the attendant of forum complaints for the various factions that we have to deal with, add that to the on forum brand proselytising as opposed to informed discussion and the thread rapidily degenerates into competing advertising campaigns hence the locking.

If we get straight pull AR thread that revolve around informed discussion about peoples firearms with photos of the same, the pros and cons, likes and dislikes then the threads will run but unfortunately some people see it just as a chance for partisan advertising and that is what locks the threads.

I am not posting this for discussion just once again setting out my position on this, which no doubt will have no effect and be ignored as all the previous post but there it is. This is how these threads are perceived here at present and until we start getting some decent straight pull AR discussion threads then all such threads will continue to be watched for reverting to form. The unpleasant fact is that straight pull AR threads on here have a lot of "previous" and as such any new threads get scrutiny

The cause for the locking of threads is down to the nature of the posts in the thread not my view of straight pull guns. Again for the record I have owned and shot a fully black plastic fitted folding stock straight pull Saiga AK look alike and enjoyed it immensely for the time that I had it. I only let it go as wanted one in 7.62x39 rather that the .223 it was and I haven't come across one yet. I do currently have a Ruger straight pull Mini 14 in 7.62x39. But so what never let the facts get in the way of a good hiatus.

Thank you for your clear response Dromia, one point I would like to clarify, if a .22lr Armalite Rifle 15 (CMMG / LANTAC / Spikes / Bradley Arms), uses everything of the full bore semi version but with a .22lr barrel no gas tube and a dedicated .22lr bolt and that bolt surely that is still like its big brother? Especially if you have a .223 / 5.56 AR and you use the .22lr conversion kit does that AR then become classified as a not a real deal? As with the Armalite Rifle 15 the .22lr version is semi auto also as I believe its only the Military M16 version that is full auto.

I understand what you are saying for a lot of the black rifles, GSG etc but some platforms are different and a lot of parts are interchangeable etc.

What I think a lot of people are trying to say is lets not use phrases that people know will provoke others whether that be Pretendy AR's or SOWR (S**t Old Wooden Rifle(I think that is what people have used)), and that should be across the board and not just you.

Here we go again you just can't help yourself can you, post starts off "pretendy ARs, AKs, Garands, SLRs etc etc,"

Then at the end of your post when you say you have had a Saiga AK and do own a Ruger Mini 14 in 7.62x39 these are both pretendy in your world, & that will be a Mini 30 if it's in 7.62x39 you do not use the word Pretendy because they were/are yours, double standards or what.....
