How to transfer/post an antique obsolete calibre rifle...

#1 Post by Mike95 »

The situation currently seems almost impossible for a private seller....Royal Mail...oversize...must use Parcelforce...Parcelfarce...will not ship any firearm for a private customer. If you are an account customer, Parcelfarce might ship..but there is no compensation available. The only possibility seems to be rfd to rfd transfer....even then...probably no compensation for loss.

Face to face is the obvious answer and possibly the cheapest but many people do not want to drive.

Any bright ideas anyone? How do the dealers manage?

Parcel Force RFD accounts offer compensation.

Question from a numpty..

If it is an off ticket, obsolete calibre.. surely it is no longer a firearm, but could be described as an art piece.

Parcelfarce Basic rfd compo is £200.... useless....extra compo at a cost. The private seller is stranded.

Last gun I sent was £4.00 for up to £500 cover.

If you have seen the state of some of the packages and guns that I have received from Parcel Farce then it is worth it.

Take it apart?

Ship it with RM in two parts as "metal", add comp as needed.

Do not really want to dismantle antique obsolete calibre 1894 Winchester with 26" barrel...I did once post an air rifle to the Netherlands in 2 pieces...described as "timber" and "engineering part"...arrived safely..
Looks like face to face or nothing for antiques.
