Wow, even with adblock plus, that site is filled with horrendous adverts and fake download links... probably not best to link to it in a thread where people who are not completely computer savvy are browsing.... :/

I can't be arsed with a lot of fiddle-faddling to edit a picture for uploading ...
... after Photobucket stitched up its long-time users I switched to this free equivalent:

This is about as simple as a resizer gets:
http://www.bricelam.net/ImageResizer/
It's a clone of the old Windows XP 'powertoy' resizer. Right-click the image file and choose 'resize'. On first use select the 'custom' option and the max width and height.

I've just downloaded an app for my phone and posted a pic in the test area, seems to work fine in conjunction with the forums upload requirements.

Re: Image uploading issues - what can we do?
The plain fact is that as long as we rely on the member to do the image processing, this issue will remain.
There simply must be a plugin for the uploaded or an alternative uploaded that takes whatever you throw at it and makes it no bigger than X pixels wide or Y MB in size then posts it.
If there isn't one then I will cheerfully write one, I've written them before. Increasing the upload size in the sever config I can help with too.
But it's moot, there will be an appropriate plugin that will do the job or I'll eat my reloading press.

Re: Image uploading issues - what can we do?
I agree it would make this problem go away. Having just taken a 5 minute look, it seems there is a plugin called "ReIMG Image Resizer" for the phpBB forum software, that resizes it client side with javascript before uploading it. It would need some testing.

I'd be happy to volunteer some time on Friday if required!

Re: Image uploading issues - what can we do?
Hi all.
After a number of people found the image upload process tricky and the realisation that manually resizing images isn’t for everyone, I have made a little change to the system.
Christel has graciously let me into the innards of the forum and I have added a bit of code to the image upload system.
There is now a 5Mb image upload limit which should be sufficient for most images and any pictures you upload will be resized automatically to be no bigger than 1280 pixels wide by 1024 pixels high.
It should support the most popular image types but jpg files from cameras is what’s most important.
If you’ve had trouble uploading images in the past or would just like to test the new functionality, please head over to the test area where you can upload some images and see if the results are as you’d expect.
Please lob any and all feedback here!
