Buying a gunstock from the USA?
Is it possible to buy a gunstock direct from the states these days and have it posted direct to the UK, or are gunstocks subject to export restrictions? Any info appreciated.

I've imported rifles so I can't see a problem with just a stock.
If the seller won't send it the biggest issue would be getting an exporter to ship, doesn't matter about the legality if no one will do any paperwork and ship it. If they can and are willing to do it then you're all good.

It really depends and is down to the individual manufacturers, I was looking at a new stock for my Savage, Choate were willing to ship a $300 stock but the shipping charges and customs etc would have made it very expensive for what it was, however Boyds will ship one if it is below $100 which none of their finished stocks are the one I wanted was $129, in the end I managed to get the Boyds through the Sportsmans Gun Centre all in cost was £180 so I was happy with that.

Anything i buy from usa i get a friend to buy over there and then posted on. I dont even bother getting in touch as most us retailers cant be bothered with the hassel, if they can then their web page will usually shout it out really loud. Either way as pe4king pointed out this over $100 hurdle they have is mental.
I feel a little sorry for the small US trader as due to taxes on stuff going out and gun law complications on export their end it makes it difficult.

If you can, search the EU for what you're after. Buying from the US is a pain for those one off purchases these days. And give the cost of shipping now and all taxes and duties, it's really not worth it IMO.
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

I've bought a couple of stocks & other non restricted items in the US in the past & never had any issues when coming through UK customs.

Have a look on Ebay (.co.uk AND .com) as well. Some US suppliers on there allow you to see/prepay the customs charges etc at the time of purchase and rather than fannying about with going to a depot to pay extra it just comes straight to your door like a package from elsewhere in the UK
