Re: New laws coming?
I've shot a few lever releases and really liked them. Having gone through effectively four bans over the last few years is exactly why I don't have one in my cabinets. But that's a personal choice based on experience. And unfortunately that experience tells me nothing is safe...
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

James048 wrote:Agreed. The supporting documentation on the consultation states the cost to Government will be compensating for the retail value of the firearms and states the MARS is around £2k. No need to sell anything cheap, you'd get your money back even if it went down the worst case road.
It's not about the money though. I made a shed load with the handgun ban, but I'll never forgive the ba$tards for it!

Absolutely and that's why it's worst case. People shouldn't panic sell firearms when they don't need to, for them it is about the money.
Re: New laws coming?
Now, I know that those who write the legislation ( and those who draft the consultations ) are by no means expert and this has in the past led to hopeless legislation but..............
Even the least informed of them know that .50 is not the ONLY anti-materiel rifle. And they will also be aware of the existence of the lever release rifles too.
If ( and I hope it never gets past "if" ) they do manage to move anything to Sec 5, they are unlikely to do so with one specific calibre / cartridge - more likely to do it with rifles above a certain calibre and above a certain muzzle energy. Otherwise all the .50 owners could just move to a similar rifle in a slightly different calibre the next day !
Likewise the "rapid firing" rifles. I have a feeling that IF they move anything to Sec 5, it will not be defined as MARS action but as something that precludes all but straight pull / bolt action.

Re: New laws coming?
I had a quick look and .50bmg is generally 11-13000 ft/lb, not much comes close, .338 Lap is half the muzzle energy of the .50bmg...
The .408 Cheytac is sub 8500ft/lb

The legality section of that wikipedia page, shows how many countries already have a .50BMG ban, as does California.

Just the survey regarding the consultation http://www.homeofficesurveys.homeoffice.gov.uk/s/WX2TN/snayperskaya wrote:Have I missed it or is there a petition regarding this?.

One of our club members made a good point if you have yet to complete the survey -BamBam wrote:Just the survey regarding the consultation http://www.homeofficesurveys.homeoffice.gov.uk/s/WX2TN/snayperskaya wrote:Have I missed it or is there a petition regarding this?.
For everyone who's completing the survey don't forget to answer the section on the disability act.
The lever release and MARs systems both allow disabled shooters who have disabilities relating to fine or other motor skills to target shoot in a way that other types of rifles ie Straight pull, Lever action and bolt action rifles may not.
This could also apply to anyone with an upper body disability.
