Question for the engineers - screw within another screw head
I am sure I have seen this sort of thing somewhere but cannot find them now as I have no idea what these are called !
Basically a screw with a head which is drilled and tapped to accept a smaller screw.
What are these known as in the trade ?
I could just drill existing screw heads and use smaller self-tapping screws, I guess......but if available off the shelf it would save me time.

Mating screw or coupling screw is what I would call it.

Is this for a carpentry application?
Re: Question for the engineers - screw within another screw
No - the big screw - self tapping into light plastic. The small screw - attaching very light metal item to big screw.Ovenpaa wrote:Is this for a carpentry application?

I think you possibly mean helicoil

Or possibly these cavity fixings

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools!!

No helicoils are for the repair of b*ggered screw threads.20series wrote:I think you possibly mean helicoil
