MOD shooting ranges

#1 Post by bhodge »

By any chance, has anyone on the forum heard anything about new restrictions on civilian use of Ministry of Defence shooting ranges. I heard rumours of such things several months ago, but it's all gone quiet!

All civilian use of field firing ranges has been stopped until further notice.

If you go back a couple of pages and scroll down to `another nail in the coffin` you can read the discussion.

Is Otterburn a field firing range?

It may be a silly question, but what's a field firing range?
The MOD range that my club shoots on is a field...and we fire on it. I assumed that would make it a field firing range!
Seriously, its a range with set firing points between 100yds to 300yds, shooting prone, at targets with butts.

If it has targets with butts, it isn't technically a field firing range. What you are describing is a gallery range.

As an example F Range at Sennybridge is a field fire range, set in natural terrain with multiple targets of various sizes at different ranges designed to simulate activity in a combat enviroment. Often field fire ranges include things small structures and old vehicles......F Range has a few old APC's and a T-55 as well as whats left of a much abused F8 Meteor that has been brought back nearer the firing point and is no longer a target.
