Carboot bargain

#1 Post by M99 »

Not a full bore or even a rimfire, but still a bargain all the same - got dragged to the carboot sale this afternoon - whilst wandering around pushing the buggy, something gold caught my eye - close inspection revealed a "scope" in the boot of a car - nothing special but it was attached to an air rifle, again, nothing special but after a haggle I walked away with an air rifle I didn't need - but hey, I enjoyed the haggle and for £20 for a Remington Genesis 1000 with a silencer, sling, swivels and a nikko sterling silver crown 4 x 32, I don't think I did too bad!!

Sorry for the poor photo.

Stock is synthetic, the barrel and action need some TLC and probably re-blueing. I've removed about a 4" strip of black insulation tape off the barrel which has left quite a mess.

Something to do over the follow few evenings anyway

A bargain at that price, some very fine wire wool and light oil will go a long way to tidying it up and removing the rust spots and many finish. Do you have a chrono? It would be interesting to know what muzzle energy it could muster.

10 shots with 22 Eley Wasps (All I had to hand) showed an average of 11.2ft/lbs (High of 11.4 low of 11.0) so it is fairly consistent for a springer.

I'll leave the spring where it is then :good: just give it a good clean up.

Fine rifle, for a great price.

I think this is amazing. Here in Ireland (other than the lad selling it getting into trouble) i would need his FAC details, and then to apply for a license which consists of referees, medical details, gun details, owner's details, reason for wanting it, game club/range membership details, etc., and last but not least a minimum of 3 months waiting to see if the license is approved.

We still work of the one license per firearm system.

You need an FAC for an air rifle? In the UK it is only on ticket if it exceeds 12ft/lbs ME for a rifle and 6ft/lbs for an air pistol

It gets better. An air rifle (anything over 1 joule) under irish law is deemed a firearm. As a firearm you now must meet a minimum standard in security which is a gun safe that conforms to BS 7558, and in a locked room with locks that conforms to BS 3621 on the doors.

Even if a pellet gun (child's to) is over 328 fps/1 joule it is now deemed a firearm, and if it is not over 1 joule no oe under 16 may own one. :G

However i do not wish to derail the OP's thread with "tales of Woe" so apologies if i have. It's not all bad.

1 Joule is maybe .75 ft/lbs? So a BB gun is probably outside of this limit and covered by FAC? :o

Don't worry about it - you get used to it on here and it is interesting anyway ;)
