30 AAC Blackout vs 30 carbine

#1 Post by dodgyrog »

I'm thinking of building a rifle to shoot the Blackout round, but I find myself asking what is the real difference between the Blackout and the 30 Carbine?
Any comments?

Try the http://300aacblackout.com website.

300 AAC Blackout (300BLK) was developed to launch 30 caliber projectiles from the AR platform without a reduction in magazine capacity and compatible with the standard bolt.

"Full power 115-125 grain ammunition matches the ballistics of the 7.62x39mm M43 cartridge, and eclipses 5.56mm with much higher-mass projectiles for a more dramatic effect on the target."

According to my Hornady reloading manual the 30 calibre M1 Carbine cartridge "is not a highly accurate or deadly round. It's primary purpose is as a defense weapon. As a hunting round it should be limited to plinking and small game."

There's also a discussion forum available which may be helpful and answer your questions.

The .300 Blk is comparable to the .300 Whisper if memory serves. But both, which are touted as the perfect "combat round" are comparable to the .280 British from some 70 years, which the US killed because of their own .30 cal minimum (7.62x51)
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

Roger,
Get someone to design a proper high pressure case for the 30 carbine, chambered for bullets like this http://www.midwayuk.com/apps/eproductpa ... mID=707463
and then called it the 30 Roger! :-P
