No Most certainly not. Lets face it, motor vehicles are essential to most people, firearms most certainly are not. If firearms were banned completely tomorrow it wouldn't make a jot of a difference to most peoples lives. Of course It would to us shooters... for a while that is , but we would get over it. Please don't think that I am in favour of this. I'm not, I enjoy my shooting. Nothing, but nothing will convince me that the situation regarding the ease with which firearms are available to all and sundry in the US would be good for the UK. As I frequently say as far as the USA is concerned the genie is out of the bottle even if gun ownership was banned it would make no difference, the USA is awash with guns.

Just wondering that was all. ;)

But thinking about those figures again - given that both firearms and cars are controlled via a licensing system, you could make a pretty good argument that too many people have access to cars!

Funny you should mention that. Given that our main predator is Vauxhall Vectras and suchlike, maybe we should have a word with The Idiot Boy* about pricing cars off the road

Indeed you could but as I said... To most people the Motor vehicle is an essential, especially those who live in a rural location where public transport is woefully inadequate.

But with the license comes the responsibility to obey the laws associated with it, otherwise you'll lose authority to use that item, regardless how essential it is.

Neither do I.I bought my first brand new shotgun in 1962-63. It was a BSA Snipe single barrel 12 gauge, 32'' barrell 3'' Magnum with a full choke.... I think :? , t'was a long time ago. I was allowed to keep it, and the cartridges in the barrack room in my standard steel locker. As I recall I was the only 'Other rank in the Camp who owned a 'Gun' of any kind. I had a permit from the garrison adjudant to shoot vermin on local WD land. I seem to recall having to buy a license the the local Post Office ,for about 10/- "

Hi Jenks
I see you were stationed at Cultibraggan around that time. Clicky...

I took part in some Infantry competitions around that time...Maybe you remember us ( Argylls 51st HD).The last time we were there some of us got a bit drunk caused a riot and chased the duty Officer with a fixed Bayonet.

No sorry mateI don't remember the Argylls being there. We had a company of Cameronians (poison Dwarfs) acting as a demonstration unit. Their nickname was very apt. The very first night they arrived they went down to Comrie and managed to start fights in the towns two pubs. Getting themselves confined to barracks for the duration of their stay. I had a great time that summer. I was the most junior of four permanant staff. The CO was a Royal Engineers Major and a thougherly decent chap. The camp had an old handyman name of Sandy who let me share his workshop. I recall there was a very comely and obliging girl by the name of Alice who worked in the cook house. Wonder if you remember her? I do remember that upon my return to my unit being summoned to appear before my CO. I thought I was going to be congratulated for a successful detachment. Not so! I was given a serious rollicking for failing to report a minor traffic offence that occured just before I left for Perthshire ..resulting in a small fine that I dealt with whilst in Scotland not thinking to inform my unit.
