I'm with Grant, don't send this to the proof house. I believe it is not necessary as you do not intend to sell this rifle once it's in the country.

Why not shove the problem over to the NRA legals to mull over? Likewise, in the past I've seen a couple of "Firearms Specialists" solicitors advertised in some of the shooting press. Spend the "proof house" money getting their opinion. Or even, look for a local commercial law specialist and get him to look over the act and give you an opinion, for after all, that's what the legislation is about, protecting commerce......

But, I'll say it again, don't send it, you don't need to!
In 1978 I was told by my grand dad that the secret to rifle accuracy is, a quality bullet, fired down a quality barrel..... How has that changed?

David,

Forget about all that. I presume you have it on an european firearms pass... If you really want it proofed, take an appointment on a nice friendly place like St Etienne or Liege, they will be waiting for you and you will be asked to bring 2 rounds of your OWN ammunition, they will heat it to raise 25% the developped prssure, you will even be invited to assit to the proofing and procedures and you will pay a fraction of what they ask you there..As reciprocity exist, this will be valid in alll CIP countries. Exêct tp have alll finisged in less than 1 hour... Time ago i St Etienne, you were even invited to visit the 'Musée de l'Epreuvve' during the processing...

BTW; what is in Bisley the situation of all the visitors entering te Imperial coming from all countries who are not CIP members??? Except this senseless Rule 150 test, are they asked to have thieir rrifles submitted to CIP proof before the warm-up competitions?..

How many barrels are changed in a hurry before competitions without the rifle being re-submitted to the 'finished firearm' proof???.

And what about those having several barrels on the same rifle that they swao between competitions?. If you go to the extreme, each time you qwap barrels, the fireams should be re-proofed, no?

Robert, yes I have my EFP and Liege is certainly easy enough to get to, a nice days drive and we could do some sight seeing at the same time. You have mentioned the process of heating ammunition before and it sounds a lot friendlier than a UK proof house stuffing a case with the fastest powder they can find and then hiding behind a wall...
