Funny, I've been looking into lead alternatives or at least "less lead" for indoor shooting. I'm currently shooting lead cast bullets and end up covered in the stuff after a couple of hours on the range.

I think there's a valid case for reduced lead contact especially those of us who have "young uns" at home who will also likely become contaminated. I'm trying to track down some lead free primers too but haven't had any luck yet.

Oh most DIY and paint stores have been selling lead free primer for years, ooman...

Aye, never got to use these. Can they be better than the "standard" lead/copper construction, I wonder.

Has anyone ever become ill through lead poisoning due to firearm ammunition...

If bullets do become lead free you know for sure it will hit us in the pocket.

From what I've seen (me covered in lead deposits after reloading and shooting) and what I've read about vaporised lead (bullet) coming from the breech and the lead in the primers, looking for an alternative to reduce some or all of it must be a good idea.

I've been particularly interested in plated or TMJ bullets to reduce my immediate exposure. I've read that a 97% reduction in lead vapor/exposure was noted in a US university experiment when using plated as opposed to cast bullets.

Is lead not a natural material? Shooting wise, are bullets not just the way that lead is delivered back into the earth? With the amount of exposure/injestion/absorbing of lead you would have to endure in order to suffer the effects, it's a lot of lead to take in!

Has anyone ever told "these people" just to shut up?
