Had an email from a mate this morning who had obviously seen the Wedgenock results.

"Didn't come last then?" he sent.

I replied "No, two blokes who had entered couldn't make it!"

It was fun 'though.

BZ Jim Starley and all the Wedgenock Crew.

Went to Short Siberia with a few mates and had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon playing with all things Enfield and Moisin-Nagant related.

Spent the morning cleaning the Firearms I shot yesterday.

Yesterday I spent the afternoon teaching two new shooters basic safety, handling, and how to shoot, on pistols shotguns and rifles.

then I spent some quality time with My Mauser 71/84, Springfield Trapdoor cCarbine, and Ghenedra.

Day 4 cont'd..........Yes managed to dehydrate myself a tad.....not funny! Army guys were on the ball and force fed me water LOl

Day 5, 7.30am start a bit cooler for a few minutes.....by 11am I've scoffed a gallon of water and some more gatorade..........amazing stuff. No shade again today, all open range..how did those pioneers manage.....

Start off at 300 yards, check zero......elevation out a little and some left correction needed....ho hum, wish I had my own scope, 9x is not enough..though by noon a hipower scope is a hindrance with mirage.

Shoot 5, cover weapons and check scores..drink water, pee, drink water....

Move back to 500..Chuck decides wind is too strong for tactical shots at 600 yards..small targets and "collateral" would be a nighmare scenario...so 500 it is.....work out clicks and check by shooting 5 shot groups.....wind sure does blow those wee .223's about ..The folks with .308's are doing MUCH better...then again I haven't shot rifles like this for two years...WELL THAT'S MY EXCUSE...and i'll stick to it.

Early lunch at 11.30 am, start back at 1..it is HOT!!!!!!!!!! 113F and NO SHADE..memo to self, cover up ear defenders and sunglasses as well as rifle when checking targets.Heat is oppressive and wind does not make it cooler...like sitting in front of a hair drier...and now we have dust blowing across targets..interesting if nowt else. So hot we are all looking like alwrence of Arabia, wet towelson heads....not that they were wet for liong...I put some ice cubes inside my turban like attire. AHHHHHH NICE!

We change to multiple tactical tagets, much more interesting - various hostage type scenarios and partially exposed targets with no shoots make life fun. Holding off to left by about 2 feet gets center mass hits......and of course it is all times.

Change targets, second "exam" of the course.....again all scored..first challenge, 6 targets 6 shots, times...YAYYYY managed to get them all. second was a center mass shot (remember the wind)....yep got all 5 in there.....And then the stopper shots...ah yes well, that's where it all went t1ts up didn't it.........only ONE shot was spot on, two acceptable and two misses....Luckily got enough to pass this section.....not my best shooting by far...

Back to more tactical targets for the remaining hour, we voted to finish early due to the heat, already had two gallons of water, 2 cans Fanta and a gatorade and a half......Paid for it last night....................up and down like a hookers drawers i was.

All in all a good course but not one to shoot with a .223 (especially an assault rifle) and a low power scope...need to get a Remmy 700PSS and a trigger job I reckon (tight budget). Learned some stuff that I always avoided because it involved numbers and stuff but I got an idea noiw how it all works.....of course the range card is now useless unless I get a Ruger .223 BA rifle....

Next up is a 2 day handgun course just for ex students above a certain level...might stay here till November....

Today is birthday day (58...jeeeeeeeeezz) but I doubt anyone will by me a new toy so a wee run up country, some cake and coffee and a Chinese buffet will fill the day...and my tummy.
