Remington or Tikka?

Tikka all the way for me, at the moment I have 2 of the little devils, both the early types and both 590's these had the small loading/ejection port. When they were factory spec they were brilliant rifles, very accurate and with a nice adjustable trigger. These rifles were built on 2 action lengths, the 5 series were for rounds up to 308 win length, 6 series for the long stuff and magnums.
The only down side I always think is the lack of go faster goodies that are available over here, but even this seems to have got better.
As for the rem, just think of it as buying an action that you then screw good bits on to, this was all well and good until the importers slammed the price through the ceiling A grand for a remmy is taking the p**s.

Please may I take you a little further back in time starting with M55 & M65 which were steel short and long actions, followed by the alloy M590 & M595, M690 and M695. Hands up though, I've forgotten the dates involved and the correct 590/595/690/695 sequence. Oh there was also the M65A flat bottomed action which Christel has an example of. Also the M55 and M65 were both available in .308!

Go Faster Goodies? Not really needed. I've never had a riflesmith look at a Tikka M action stock and say that it needed replacing. I think that was a fashion which started in the hands of the Beretta bean counters and the down-engineered T3.

Hmmm...! I have had a Remington, and two Tikkas. I like the T3, but I prefer the Remington because I can get everything just right, and if I want to change something, I can. However, the basic gun can be pretty nasty.

If you want to tweak it, Remington is a good gun. Tikka T3 doesn't need tweaking, but I can't get mine just right.

There's lots of aftermarket go faster bits for the tikka if you look for em.'

Currently running three 700's two Sako and a ruger in B/A and find nothing wrong with the Remmys after a few basic tweaks like the bolt handle ?

Never owned a Remy! Went to buy one as my first .308 and then the guy brought out the Tikka super v and that was what came home with me!

Love it! It shoots very well and I've got my eye in!

Out of the box the T3 seems to offer consistent performance from the amount of fans they have, the .243 I've shot was bog standard and shoots very well, but what's to say your 700 isn't a shooter?

As far as actions go, a Tikka action appears stronger than a Remmy but it's still a sporter style, magazine fed action full of holes! I'd say stick with your Remmy. You're welcome to a shot of our .308 if you want to see well a Remington can be made to shoot. I'd say that if you bought a Tikka you'd end up spending money on it anyway.

Your Remington is already 2nd hand so won't really lose any value from you shooting it a little to see how it performs. It also benefits from the fact it already has a good stock on it which is a part of the T3 I've never been impressed with.

I have two T3's o e in 243 and one in 30-06. Both function as they should. I went foxing for the first time with a mate of mine just before christmass. He had never seen my .243. He couldn't believe for silky smooth my action was. He demanded to know what I had on to it. Answer, absolutely nothing.

You can get remmy that are good out of the box. I tried both before I borough my rifles. I just think the T3 is better if you don't want to fiddle to much. Plus for mcqueens. You can now get a ACIS mag addaptor for about £100-200! Sorted!

As a newbie to the sport I like the Remington 700 for its history and that there is so much info available on the internet. Plus mine is very accurate and flatters my abilities.
