as previously said, there are several choices, and for target shooting NRA are as good as any, personally I gave my money to BASC as they are the organisation with the biggest membership and as such are best placed to argue against new rules and hoops. I would like to join the NRA ,however I already shoot at Bisley as part of an NRA affiliated club and for the extra money it offers little for me, but that is just me YMMV

I think I'll just apply as 'Mr'...
The "Member of HM Forces" assumes you don't have an FAC and aren't a member of any other Home Office Approved Club. This is to get you out of having to do the probationary course.
The civilians (and the military) indeed don't need such IF they hold an FAC or are a member of another HOA club - either of which will have required two referees previously.
The process for joining the NRA is identical to that for joining any other Home Office Approved Club - you must complete the probationary course or show that you are exempt by one of several options. And all we are doing is making it as easy as the law allows depending on your circumstances. We could have one joining route, but that would require some people to jump though hoops the NRA had created when the law doesn't mandate it.

Thanks for clarifying that, Iain. Makes sense now. Unless I've missed it on the site, it may be an idea to revisit the wording of the forms and/or the website to make it as clear as you have stated above. You might have had my money months ago!

Were do you live if you don't live within driving distance of Bisley don't bother. Just join a local club that is affiliated to the NRA.

I wouldn't bother with an association for your practical stuff as UKPSA are in meltdown. I'd go for BASC and if close enough to Bisley when you move then NRA. Consider checking out Four4islands for your practical shooting.

After consideration, that's probably the best idea. Memberships are due in Jan anyway. Thanks all. :)
