Are any of the AE owners on the forum?

Im pretty much set on some form of AI, I just suppose when I get my FAC sorted is to see whats on the market when I get there.

Scope will be the next fun subject, I get the more you spend (within reason) the better the glass but it does pain me that some people have said £3k for a scope is where I need to be at.

One is on the forum, now I just need to remember his user name...

Scope wise, GBP3k gets you a huge amount of 'scope, in fact it will probably buy you something you cannot use. As an example a top of the range March 60x zoom is going to cost around GBP2500 and you can find some very worthwhile and more cost effective alternatives. You are going to be looking for a combination of weight, magnification and clarity of glass and this is going to immediately rule out some 'scopes. Nightforce and Sightron are popular and reasonably light. I like S&B and Kahles however they are heavier.

I have an AE on order in 260 remington.
In fact I am bouncy and clapping hands as I hope to have it in the next month or so.
Have shot friends AW and AX and both are great rifles.
I looked at a custom build but they were going to cost more than an AE.
Fact is,an AI will always hold its value and sell easily.
The only thing I dont like is the thumbhole stock and I have specd a pistol grip for mine.
Cant comment on FTR stuff as I know nothing about it!

My AE was only ever fed milsurp stuff, even managed a few V bulls at Blair Atholl with it - at 900 yrds!

Hehe! I was checking the fit of something on the rifle so it was in the workshop and obviously just wiping my hands on my coat before handling the rifle was not enough. The thing is the fingerprints are not visible until you take a picture with flash. No doubt some lighter fluid will remove them. These days I wear blue disposable gloves for new builds, if nothing else it keeps my fingerprints off them...

EDIT - I still remember you telling me why I should have a suppressor when I picked that Jackson up from you many years ago :lol:

I've got an AE and with a sightron 8-32 x56, shooting shed bipod and rear bag rider weighs in at 7.7kg. I think it's fantastic and the bipod definitely improves an already great rifle.

Just break down the major components and you cant go wrong with the AE. The differences between the two has narrowed sharply with the AE MKIII & II.

Chassis = THE SAME (both made out of he same material and all options available ) DRAW
Bolt = THE SAME DRAW
Bolt Body = THE SAME DRAW
Safty = AE MKIII 3 position AW 3 position DRAW
Magazine = Both 10rd capable. AE Single position feed, AW dual position can be topped off while mag inserted Advantage AW
Trigger = Both adjuatable both removable without taking action out DRAW
Barrels = same makers just profiled diffrent DRAW
Accuracy = nobody has ever proved one is superior to the other DRAW
Scope Base = AE 0 MOA Pic Rail (note it is not a true pic rail so be careful if you buy a one-piece mount, some fit some don't) / AW dovetail with Pic Rail option more options = Advantage AW
Scope = You can afford to buy a really nice one with the savings from an AE vs an AW, adv AE

Both are fantastic and you can buy both in a wide variety of calibers, barrel lengths etc.

Hmmm, those AE do sound rather good...
