Just found a 6.5x284 l can afford, but am wondering about barrel life, I'm not a person who pushes for the maximum from a rifle, l prefer accuracy and concistency, so if l load it without going too hot a load, how many rounds can I expect?

Depends on the MV and bullet, the 6,5-284 works well with bullets around the 139/140 grain mark and when wound up I would not expect to see much more than 1000 rounds out of a rifle. Accuracy wise I find the 6,5-284 superb at around 2950fps with a 139 Scenar (Pointed)

I would go for a rebarrel to .260 , soft recoils very accurate and long barrel life bullets 120 - 142 , still well supersonic at 1000 yds and moderate powder load - all pluses - no negatives-- simples.Pre-fit barrel from Armalon , hammered so long life , find a trustworthy smith ( Ovenpaa of this parish) ? and look forward to some seriously relaxing accurate shooting .

Ever thought of a 6BR? You could get a brand new Savage LRPV for about £1200. 105gn bullet equals negligible recoil - brilliant accuracy out to 600 yds. Accurate barrel life - 2000 plus.

Result :shakeshout: I've bought a Steve Kershaw built 6.5X284 in left hand configuration, comes with moderator, dies, cases and bullet heads, plus a left handed thumbhole stock to boot.

I'm a happy bunny, can't wait to get my mitts on it.

Thank s for all the help.
