Thanks for your help. Sightron seem to be popular!

Any thoughts on magnification? 8-32 x 56 or 10-50 x 60. I want to shoot 300 to 1000 yards at Bisley.

Another vote for the Sightron.

I have one on my F/TR rifle & a Night Force on my .338.

Is the Night Force worth it's price over the Sightron?

Ehm, maybe.

But if I needed another 1000 yard scope I'd buy a Sightron.

50 power is too much & you will not use it IMHO

I also have the 10-50 and I aggree I generally rilun at about the x30 mark also the 10-50 only has 30 moa elevation adjustment which might not be enough

Just got a Vortex Viper 6.5x20-50! Not shot with it, but will be shooting 300-1000 yds at Bisley and for the money the glass is very good. Then again you only get what you pay for and I didn't pay a lot so I'm not expecting it to be the same as a Nightforce.

Not strictly true, although I am a Sightron user (8-32x56 LRTD).

The higher mags come in very handy for highlighting your bad habits, and for shot placement.

The usual moan is that high mags make the image move about....cobblers.

We make the image move about, the trick is to stop it happening to an ever finer degree.

The problem is you need very good optics.

Dont forget that Russell Simmonds won the worlds with one of these, although my only complaint is the way they marked the elevation vernier on the turret. Pointless and silly.

I have a Sightron for F/TR and its good, I would love a march (but not 2.4ks worth of love), and thought the 2013 Niteforce comp was missguided (5moa a turn...why???).

Looks like they fixed it for the 2014 model though, worth a look.

In the meantime I need to figure out how to feed my rifle for the next season

You can go nuts with scopes. I shoot an 8-32 Nightforce on the 308 and a 5.5-22 on the 223. Often, the 32x is actually running at 22, and I find it perfectly fine. The quality of optic is more important IMHO.

That said, the new Nightforce does have higher mag AND good glass and is lovely. But, it's really expensive. Will it really make much difference? Maybe a bit IMHO, but not its asking price.

Tend to run it at high mag as it's my personal preference

I have a sightron S111 8-32x56 MOA2. a friend has the same mag in NF. we compared the 2 side by side and the NF is better but I wouldn't say enough to warrant the extra money if its only being used for target!
