*Ponders*

Are we asking the right question, oomans? What calibre should we be thinking of for 1,000 mard shots? 6.5x55 Swe ?

What's wrong with The Old Faithful .308?

Shot mine at 1000 today, always fun & a darn site cheaper than the .338LM to reload.

Would depend on your load & barrel Meles.

Mine is still above transonic speed @ 1000 without dangerous crunchy reloads.

You can call us Badger. meles meles is just our Sunday Best name (latin, you know) We is a Yorkshire Badger are us so we like low cost solutions. What loads do you use to keep above the noise barrier? Pointy bullets and hot powder?

Meles,

I may be from Lancashire but I am aware of Latin. (I studied it up to the lofty heights of GCSE you know!)

My .308 load isn't anything special, 155gn Berger Hybrid shoved along by 45.5 gn's of Viht 140 out of a 30" barrel.

Before Dromia falls out with me this may take off your snout in your rifle so work up carefully please.

Again if you can get to Diggle you can try either the .338 or .308 pal.

Hmm, you sounds like a decent ooman, even if you do skoff Eccles kakes and live on the wrong side of the Pennines. We might plan a trip over to Diggle soon...

There is only one side of the pennines Meles.

Get yourself to Diggle & I'll bring the bang sticks, I may even leave the whippets at home.

May I correct you two Gentlemen, Meles Meles is the scientific name for the stripy animal also known as a badger. Not the Latin name.
