I can't see why you should be annoyed. Your mother simply had to say that you weren't home and could they please come back when you were home, it's no big deal.

I've never understood visits of any sort to FAC holders being done in marked cars. Keeping your ownership discreet from anyone who isn't close family etc seems like an integral part of having an FAC to my mind then as a previous poster has said they turn up in a curtain twitcher attracting beacon.
By the same token I've never understood the fact that renewals and applications are sent through the mail system (and it's many different hands) with 'firearms licensing' on the front and a whole shopping list complete with address contained within. Surely a PO box or similarly innocuous address or just a code named dept address wouldn't be hard?

My FEO always shows up in a small white van and I do agree planting a couple of uniformed on the door step and marked car outside is going to draw attention however they must have felt their actions were justified. It would be interesting to hear why they felt the needed to make a check in such a manner.

Did they have a warrant at all? What was their stated reason for wanting to inspect the place?

I'd be ringing a verifiable police number ASAP to check that these were a) real coppers b) if real, authorised and c) whether your FEO has some concerns he hasn't chosen to make you aware of.

I'd also get your firearms and ammo out of the house and lodged with an RFD, stat, in case it is real and the police are fishing for an excuse to revoke your ticket and destroy your firearms. There's no other reason they'd be asking your family, in your absence, where the spare keys are.

Contact BASC and/or the NRA urgently. Might be a good idea to find yourself an experienced firearms law solicitor as well.

Do not ring 999.
