Hi Ken, not sure my friend, my .243 is going in for a barrel/chamber change in the next few weeks. It's going to be a 6x47Lapua with 30" 1:8 Lothar Walther stainless tube. So I can't even try out the cheekpiece till it gets back. sign01 .

Hope your keeping well?

I used a trued block of timber screwed to the butt to keep the stock "level". The scroll saw is very simple to operate and I only took one practice run sign01 before doing the stocks. I've never used a scroll saw before so it's a doddle, just take it slow. I did watch quite a few YouTube vids on fret/scroll saw operation to get the gist of it first though. kukkuk .

I got the idea from http://www.waveform.eclipse.co.uk/WEB%2 ... 0Piece.htm

AH! The block on the butt end is so obvious when you think about it. There was me considering all sorts of complex jigs and fixtures whereas this solution is simplicity itself. We have a fretsaw here however I am not sure the table is big enough to really support the stock as I would like. Time for some improvisation I think.

I just supported the stock with one hand and guided the cut with downward pressure on the block with the other, just take it slow and let the saw do the work. You'll have to swop round half way through as the stock comes round. Start with the stock laying on the right hand side so you've marked up the left and start the cut at the rear working your way forward.

You know you want to tongueout

Hi Vasbyt,
I've considered doing similar to my Howa, but haven't had the bottle yet.
But please could you post a diagram (or a photo) of the set-up you used for sawing the stock . . . I don't really understand where you screwed the block of timber to.

Thanks
Triffid

Hi Triffid

You remove the butt pad and use the same holes to attach your piece of timber.

That does sound ridiculously simple - just a case of working up the courage to try it!
