No need to align the gas tube hole in the UK, just set to a fixed torque of approx 50 foot pounds and use that each time. Headspace is the relationship between the cut chamber, barrel extension and bolt and it is not effected by barrel nut torque.

What's the twist rate of the barel fitted to your NEA?

Aligning the gas tube hole depends completely on the handguard to be fitted. There are not many that use a standard nut and don't require alignment, as most are designed in the USA and they all have gas tubes.

If your handguard does not require alignment then obviously don't align the hole.

If you are replacing a barrel that you did not chamber yourself then it is best to check headspace on the whole assembly. You will be able to apply more force rather than trying to push a bolt into a barrel extensions against a gauge by hand. This depends of course on whether you have a barrel vice and incremental headspace gauges like I do that go from NO-GO to GO in .001'' increments.

I'm also not going to give you advice without suggesting that you take a simple safety step after assembly, regardless of how necessary or not it is.

Good Luck.

Have you ever seen headspace change by tightening up a barrel nut?

Yes mate, and, if you are thinking what I did, lap it to remove high spots ?

No, still trying to find some in the uk, but, pour money into this barrel? Or just get the new one on warranty ? Option two sounds better :)

I thought it was going back? So why still spend on it?

If you've lapped I'd guess thay the warranty, if there is any, will be void.
