Feel free to ask Newton to explain the physics, because I'm not entirely sure it stands up to scientific scrutiny. As far as I can see, the only factor that would affect accuracy is a variance in pressure `before` the bullet leaves the barrel and I'm not convinced that's the case.

Anyway, it doesn't matter, straight pulls are accurate, my M14 proves that.

We'd be more concerned with barrel wigglin' than the pressure dropping.... Bolt moving = barrel wigglin'

I would say it rotates about the axis and so it won't affect accuracy, but it doesn't matter it's a side issue. What straight pull are you thinking of buying?

The question is, how accurate do you want to be with something like the Beowulf? I'd be happy with the 1-2 inches the article mentioned, but others may not.

A straight pull Dragunov is slightly more accurate than its semi-auto cousin due to, as Mr Badger pointed out, the bolt/bolt carrier not moving rearward due to the gas system.It wasn't unknown for Soviet marksmen in Afghanistan to disable the gas system, making them straight pull, in order to increase the accuracy.The absence of gas bleeding off through the gas system also gives a straight pull a slightly higher muzzle velocity than its semi-auto version

What about handloading and/or muzzle velocity, given that the pressure is 'all-forward' in a straight pull? I asked this Q here a while back but I don't recall getting a definitive answer.

They're pretty straight forward, what is it you need to know? Why a .50 cal? I would have thought the LMT L7 would have been better.
