That is what is known as a "captive recoil spring" it allows for a more powerful and reliable spring to be utilised in a much shorter space. Grand Power may indeed have supplied their gun with two different weights of recoil spring initially for the owner/user to decide which weight best suited their uses, but this is fraught with risk.

There is a massive difference in .22 rimfire ammunition. Take just two loads by the same manufacturer. CCI Quiet has velocity of 710fps and a muzzle energy of 45ftlbs. CCI's Stinger generates a velocity of 1640fps giving 191ftlbs. In a bolt or lever gun, no issues, but as rimfire semis are blowback operated, the breach remains locked until pressure falls to a safe level purely on the weight of the bolt/slide and the strength of the spring alone.

Use Quiets with a strong recoil spring, the gun may not operate reliably or not at all. Use Stingers with a too light a recoil spring the breach could unlock and move back way before the pressure has reached a safe level causing a danger to the user and those around. Likewise, not strong enough a spring will have the frame of the pistol battered resulting in a destroyed gun later down the line.

Evidently, Grand Power have sought to negate this by using a captive spring that not only performs the task right across the board as much as feasible. You have not been supplied with two springs, but with one recoil spring assembly.

One question for you. Yours is the K22 standard, yes? Under the barrel shroud, is the barrel fluted as it is on the X-trim?

I Just got an X-Trim plus LBP, I've only shot about 600 rounds thru it and yesterday the slide started to stick it was refusing to travel forward over the hammer it was habging up on the hammer and was very gritty. Got it home and cleaned it out and put a little frog lube on it. Not shot it again yet but was a bit peeved that it needed that much of a clean after that many rounds. I have heard tail of not needing a deep clean until 5-6000 rounds.

I used about 200 mini mags and the rest were CCI std. unfortunately we are not allowed to use HV at one of the ranges I use because of the noise, even with a Mod on. I have heard that RWS semi-auto is a good round for it, not tried yet as I can't find any.

The 2 spring debate rages on. I have seen on the grand power forum that with the newer models you should just use both springs.

Love the gun though its a hoot to shoot, looking forward to practical pistol for it. Just had LBP added to my SSC at the NRA.
