The future of obsolete caliber guns
A major overhaul of firearms legislation was called for today as Scotland Yard revealed that legal loopholes allowed London criminals to carry out dozens of shootings, including murders, with lawfully obtained weapons.

Without denying the problem, it is amazing how the focus is on the tools more than the perpetrators. Anyway, looks like more restrictions on the horizon ?

The pistol act which I understand was the really first piece of firearms legislation dates from 1903.
Re: The future of obsolete caliber guns
Yes, London criminals are carrying out all sorts of stuff with Flintlocks and Brown Bess's.
You can just see the gangsta drug lot with a nice shiny blunderbuss controlling their turf - NOT!
Just diverting attention away from the fact they cannot deal with the problem so instead create an alternative to blame.
Anyway,. I thought they had taken guns off the streets when they stole all the handguns and SLR's a while back

Political Correctness is the language of lies, written by the corrupt , spoken by the inept!
Re: Law Commission recommends total overhaul of firearms law
The possibility of reform must surely be a good thing?

That means "BAN" in their speak.
How come antis and assorted others have police pressure groups but this sport seems to have nothing?.

Bearing in mind the prevalence of deaths & injuries caused by blades, the Lib-Dem opposed introducing a six-month automatic sentence for anyone convicted of possessing a knife for a second time...
Many in Westminster with the Labour & again the Lib-Dem leading the pack, are howling to the moon at the slightest mention of automatic deportation of criminals...
Again, same people for whom "Stop & Search" of the most criminal ethnic section of GB' residents is a moral abomination comparable to the Gestapo or Stasi' work...
The mere suggestion of reducing the flow of immigrants known to represent a disproportionate number of criminals classify you as a racist monster...
But be assured that those antique revolvers fanciers will be targeted with the full force of the law ...
British public can rest confident that Westminster is protecting them

I think what we are lacking in the UK is a strong organisation to fight our corner someone like the American NRA who are strong and won't take any s#+t

I've been browsing the consultation document here: http://www.lawcom.gov.uk/wp-content/upl ... rearms.pdf
Quite telling that the acknowledgements section references BSSC and BASC, but makes no mention of our "national" bodies the NRA or NRSA.

Who? Me? Really?
Re: Law Commission recommends total overhaul of firearms law
As I noted on the blog, the BSSC, HBSA and BASC all had inputs.
I'd have written in with plenty to say about firearms licensing but the commission told me they weren't covering licensing law, so I kept it to just a handful of points about definitions - and I'm willing to bet that's why the NRA and NSRA didn't get involved. They did send me a paper copy of the report, though, with a personally signed letter from the law professor in charge of it all, which was a nice touch.
I don't think the commission itself is interested in a ban. What we're fighting against is NABIS and Continuity ACPO's insistence on licensing antiques through the back door and criminalising the possession of tools which "might" be used to modify a firearm. That latter part is the most dangerous aspect of the whole thing and one we need to strangle, now. The only way we're going to do that is by writing and lobbying and meeting key people to win them over.
What I might do is start writing a response and pop it on the blog, chapter by chapter, and let people critique it. Crowdsourced firearms law!

Re: Law Commission recommends total overhaul of firearms law
How many times have the law commission recommendations have made in to committe stage let alone law ?
What are the shooting organisations doing esp with acpo trying to make laws !! Why haven't the government put a stop to acpo activities??
What's happining with regards to that stupid grass helpline ? If nothig why not ?
All these issues must be taken up with a government Minster NOT the homeoffice

I've emailed my MP about these thing several times, but seeing as he's a government minister, I haven't had a response.joe wrote:How many times have the law commission recommendations have made in to committe stage let alone law ?
