I'd say no. If you consent to giving your data to your club for the administration of the club, then you haven't consented to your data being passed to the NRA for insurance purposes. Up until now the comp card has been entirely administered at club level and the records only pulled in if there's an incident.

But if the running of the club means updating the records with the NRA to keep your affiliation, then surely it would be a permitted disclosure necessary for running the club. Even in terms of insurance, if its a case of getting your affiliated insurance or not, then it seems covered by permitted disclosure.

Without the disclosure you are not insured by the NRA, and club events may not be carried out.

Not sure if this is the same, but every year our club secretary asks for "current individual NRA member details ( name and number) and as I understood it was so that our club can discount their NRA dues by how many full NRA members.

I do sometimes ( and don't go flaming mad ) think that people can get a bit precious over "personal info". Personally , if it saves my local club some some money then I don't give a !?&!

Just my own opinion, others are available from reputable sources :-)

As i now read the forms (as club Sec)

We dont pay capitation fee if a member has an NRA Safe Shooter Cert card, or is an NRA member (i can give them one free), has a SSC issued by another NRA affiliated club (Gaz - :-)), has a 4 year card issued this year, is going to join the NRA in 2016 (our freebie student). Our club will now pay no Capitation fee for 4 years thanks, unless we get a new member certificating as SSC & then we can charge them £9 & that covers 4 years. NRA are going to lose money over this.

I will submit a list of NRA club members like last year because that puts on record that we are properly constituted as +10 full members & more full members than probationary.

Capitation was a means for NRA to charge clubs with large membership a bit more.
Capitation was nothing to do with certification.
Certification is nothing to do with insurance.
Capitation is nothing to do with insurance.

Yes, a little bit confusing, but what about our members who don't shoot on (or intend to) a MOD range, which is what the SCC was supposed to be all about.

They dont need a SSC......... even if they do shoot on an MOD range as long as they are supervised & coached 1to1 by someone who does hold a SSC.

I have experienced similar problems at club level. It seems nobody actually knows who wants what data for whatever reason. It would be very simple if people said why they wanted data. Nobody seems to take the time to explain.[sorry a brief excursion into grumpy old man mode]

You can NOT collect Data just for the sake of it - that IS a data Protection issue...No reason then NO data. How many shops ask for your info - "for the computer"?? That's a NO.

They'll soon let you know the reason for your info - if there is one. Oh and I think they MUST tell you what it's for..
