This would be my advice too. And don't put any shooting related stickers on the case or the car either.

For the last 12 years I have been schlepping up and down the M40 and M42 to Bisley/Kingsbury with the Mauser in a gun bag strapped onto the side of my motorbike.

In that time I have been noticed 4 times, once by a 12 year old girl once by a member of the travelling community, once by a policeman in a traffic car and once by a "civvie". I have had to stop twice at the services for the loo, I took the rifle off the bike and hung it over my shoulder. I then walked through the services to the loo and then back to the bike. Nobody batted an eyelid.

I thought 5/5 Black Rats seeing it on the road would think 'Guitar or Gun? .....Pull him over!' & the day your dont carry your FAC turns into a bad day.

Buy a rifle to fit the car, boots don't come much smaller than a smart.

If it's in a Smart car it's a pistol. :-)

I used to have an ex plod bike for cutting through the traffic to Bisley.
I would carry my rifle in a locked quad bike gun case that was bolted and locked onto the bike.
I used to disguise it with fishing stickers and keep nets to give the impression I was carrying fishing rods.

Checked with the police beforehand and it was confirmed that so long as it was under cover, locked, and suitably secured there was no bother. I never left the bike unattended - never had to as the fuel tank was good for well over two hundred miles a pop.

So I would say the planned means of carrying it on a car would be fine and certainly legal.

I got fed up with my Nissan 300zx getting knocked about going to various ranges (it was seriously lowered etc) so I said sod it and got a Shogun instead.The last straw was getting the 300 stuck in snow on the bank coming out of Minsterley Ranges and getting the speedo up to 150mph on the spot!!!
