How old is that advertisement?

Open bolt does not necessarily mean that a semi auto firearm is any more convertible to full auto. Granted the US government made this case in the early 1980s and so closed down firms such as RPB Industries that were making open bolt firing MAC10 semi autos. Likewise, early Uzi carbines were semi auto open bolt.

And open bolt designs are not limited to "military". The Voere 2005 semi auto rimfire is a sporting .22 firing from an open bolt. And Marlin came out in 1931 with their model 50 which was a wooden stocked, rimfire sporter, with a detachable magazine and firing from an open bolt!

But that was a conversion as opposed to a dedicated design...

And it went back far too early!! *cough, cough*!!

..or an open bolt type - they are already available in .22 Rimfire.

If you used the original bolt size and weight it would be interesting to fire Dave.

As I said to you, the Sterling relied on the weight of the bolt and the spring to do everything, so as a result of all that weight flying about on single shot the thing would often dip, and on full auto it would ladder up as the thing came forward before the gun had settled.

They got quite temperamental if hot or not kept clean with the poor sod next to you getting an ear full of brass splinters when a round went prematurely (did not filly chamber but the heavy bolt and fixed firing pin did its job). I had 2 examples of cases from this in my time using them, one blew, the other geld and looks like a mushroom.

A horrid piece of crap in my opinion and I wonder why anyone would want to re-create one with so many better deigns out there....our crews had MP5s very early....you have to wonder why?

The best thing I ever did to one was flush it out with kero, oil it up and bag it up after the Gulf never to be seen again!! clapclap

What about using a gsg mp40 .22lr mags and a dedicated .22lr CMMG bolt as they are avaliable rather than making one completely from scratch?
