Did you check with or without the firing pin? It is good practice to remove the pin regardless of cock on open or close.
Using tape is not a great way to test head space however it does work and you should not be able to close the bolt on the taped case without considerable effort. Given that you are reforming 22-250 brass I would be looking at a combination of firing pin protrusion as .050" which is low and I would check the case head to shoulder datum dimension versus factory brass, you can do this with a CM bump gauge, one for a 22-250 or even .308 will work at a push.

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle - Light Primer Strikes?
I've tried the tape test on all 3 of my rifles, they all close.
The Steyr and the Ruger take more effort than the Tikka (even using virgin factory brass). Maybe I'm using thin tape, I tried 2 pieces and again they all close, more effort but they will close and I can feel the tape being squashed. I know it's not exact but it would suggest that out of the three the Ruger cases are set with the shoulder in a slightly further forward position giving less headspace.
The Tikka feels to have the most headspace but fires those primers every time, of course it helps that the firing pin is protruding .064"
just stripped the bolt and flushed/cleaned it and it was perfectly clean, re-measured the pin and it's still at .05"

Pull the light strikes, drop a couple of grains and jam them .020"

Weird, took 100rnds to Ponteland this morning, cases were FLS in the same die, primed and loaded at the same time as the previous 100, only got 1 light strike!.
I've tried a fired case with 1 piece of tape and the bolt took a fair amount of pressure to close, with 2 almost impossible. So, I backed out the die until I got a case which did the about the same, loads no problem without tape, stiff bolt with 1 piece.

So you had set the shoulders too far back? An accurate means of measuring case head to shoulder is essential when press forming wildcats or modifying brass, without it you are guessing at best.

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle - Light Primer Strikes?
Possibly, but all the cases that fired today were from the same 220 I formed at the same time in the same die, so exactly the same as the ones I used on Wednesday.
What's weird is they were all fire formed then ran through a standard factory die, if anything the non-fire formed cases would have have been more likely to have problems but didn't.
I'll reload all 200 again and see what happens next outing, got a bit more comfortable with it today using the Mystic Precision M-Pod with the longer legs :)
Thanks for taking the time to help

Re: Ruger Precision Rifle - Light Primer Strikes?
OK, adjusted out my FLS die to give minimum headspace of .001" and still got a couple of light strikes.
I know a few people have had problems with the firing pin retaining roll pin being missing but mine is def. there.
Could any other RPR owners measure their firing pin protrusion as a comparison?, I know .05" should be OK but it's right on the bottom end of the range.
