So does that mean that now individual club members will need their own insurance to comply with the conditions on their FAC?

If so one could speculate that this move by our not national organisations could be a move to encourage individual membership of these shameful bodies.

Its a condition on my ticket.

"The firearms and ammunition shall be used for target shooting , and only whilst a member of (club), on ranges suitable for the safe use of that class of firearm and with adequate financial arrangements in place to meet any injury or damage claim"

I think I've probably got it wrong actually as you can read that as meaning that the club must have insurance in place rather than the shooter.

I've always read that as the club/range needing the insurance, not the certificate holder

Opposite here.

Club needs to be insured however the shooter needs his/her own insurance.

Its like everything else firearms related - impossibly difficult for the average person to understand!

I've always taken it to mean the club.

for it to mean me, I would expect it to read.

"The firearms and ammunition shall be used for target shooting, with adequate financial arrangements in place to meet any injury or damage claim and only whilst a member of (club), on ranges suitable for the safe use of that class of firearm"

If you shoot on an estate then you by law need to be insured, being a member of a club does not give you that insurance.

Still think it means the shooter.

EDIT: Actually I am not sure it is by law, estates say you need to be insured in order to shoot.

which i found as i was typing my response above was what made me change my mind!

When I first got my licence I read it as meaning the shooter needed insurance so I joined the NRA. (I'm now going to join the NSRA instead as thats more relevant to how I shoot). I'll continue with membership of one or the other as i think having my own insurance is a good idea.

It only mentions clubs/ranges. So...does that mean by law a shooter does not need insurance.

I find that insane. We need by law insurance to drive a car.
