If your ticket is vague you might find that RFD's will be reluctant to put their neck on the line to sell you something. I had 7.62 ammunition on mine, my RFD said he wouldn't sell me .308 but he told me that some dealers he knew would.

I've heard this story before.how daft is that.i am not sure why rules are not the same for every firearms licensing department.i do building type work.i did one small site with 14 houses on which had to be inspected by building control and the NHBC.when we were doing the foundation both had to inspect before we concreted.one would want a layer of mesh put in the other would want 2 layers.one would say the other was wrong doh.......
Belt and braces so we did 2 layers of mesh.

...should have added a couple of layers of NHBC Inspector = problem solved & a couple of free bike parking bays as a bonus

I had the same with .38/.357 ammo. I had .357 on my cert and the RFD wouldn't sell me .38, even though the gun it was going to be used in was listed on my certificate as .38/.357. It was reasonably quick/easy to get fixed though.

Durham have always insisted on specifying exact cartridges with me, with centrefire stuff anyway.

With Surrey, I've only ever had to specify the calibre & type, not the cartridge.

Same here but 7.62 is generally regarded to be the same as .308 and .38 actually .357 but in a shorter case.
